Student killed, 2 others injured in crash

A college student in New York was killed and two other people were injured from a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Nov. 19. The incident happened at around 9:15 a.m. on Route 10 in Sharon Springs. Police claim the college senior was headed southbound on Route 10 in a 2008 Dodge Dakota when he crossed into the opposing lane and collided with an oncoming 2008 Ford F-250. The 21-year-old student was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The two occupants in the F-250 were brought to Bassett Hospital to receive medical treatment for their injuries and were released. The driver in the Ford was a 50-year-old man from Deansboro, and his passenger was a 30-year-old man from Richfield Spring. The body of the deceased driver was transferred to Albany Medical Center. He was a Wilson resident and was attending SUNY Cobleskill.

The two people injured in the crash may benefit from contacting a lawyer about taking legal action against the decedent's estate. The two occupants in the Ford may be entitled to receive restitution for the ensuing damages if their lawyer can prove that the deceased driver was responsible for causing accident. Plaintiffs' lawyers in this particular case may contend that the deceased driver became culpable for negligence once he crossed over the centerline of the roadway.

Plaintiffs in civil cases involving car accidents are typically compensated for medical costs, repair expenses, loss of income and other ensuing hardships. In order to receive any award through court, plaintiffs are usually required to prove that the defendant is liable for the damages. Commonly cited instances of driver negligence in car accident cases includes speeding, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, distracted driving, fatigue and other traffic violations. Lawyers may also be able to assist plaintiffs with negotiating a settlement outside of court as well.
